Lausanne's flea markets
Lausanne's week is led by the Marché de Rumine on Place de la Riponne, which the city runs four days a week. It has no food and mixes new textiles with secondhand things, furniture and books, mostly in the morning. At Ouchy, the community centre keeps a second-hand room in its basement, open every week outside holidays, stocked with things people give. Once a month the Marché Calabash returns to the Riponne, run by a non-profit for children in Sierra Leone, and the Flon holds a clothes sale from April to November, except August.
Dealers take over the lakeshore at Ouchy on chosen days between April and October with vinyl, comics and books. The rest are small and local, often once a year: in April the Puces de la Folie under the chestnut trees of Parc Mon-Repos, next to a playground; in June the Plaines-du-Loup, where only residents sell; La Sallaz in spring and September, with children selling too. October brings a slow fashion market at the Casino de Montbenon.
