Basel's flea markets
The Petersplatz, by the university, has a flea market week after week, skipping only public holidays and the Herbstmesse; fine antiques sit beside children's clothes. St. Johann's Vogesenplatz is smaller and more for the neighbours, next to the weekly food market. The Markthalle, two minutes from Basel SBB, hosts one under its big dome once a month, and a night market in the evening. Barfüsserplatz adds a small one twice a month until early October.
Then the quarters take their turn: fifteen of them, from Gundeli to Klybeck, each hold their own once between April and October: private sellers at front doors and in courtyards, plus a bring&nimm spot where you leave what still works and take what you like. Letziplunder, behind the Papiermühle, comes in June and September; the Alpin-Flohmi brings used mountain gear in April. Indoors, the Markthalle has a record fair and, in December, a market for musicians' kit.
