Basel's neighbourhood flea markets began in 2016 in two quarters, and the Matthäus was one: the founder wanted a market for her own. The day has carried a programme too: the Florazmorge breakfast on Florastrasse, a string school playing in the Superblock on Oetlingerstrasse, Japanese paper theatre for children on the Matthäusplatz, a ping-pong party with a DJ at Bläsiring and Müllheimerstrasse. Residents cook as well; the stand map has had its own food layer, with börek, Eritrean and Ethiopian dishes, gözleme and stone-oven pizzas. The swap is in front of the church on the Matthäusplatz.
